Summer is here and there’s no better time to work toward your fitness goals. Enjoy the warm weather by adding these summertime workouts to your exercise routine. Of course, always remember to apply sunscreen regularly and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Water Works Take advantage of the sunny season by getting in the water. Whether you’re a beach bum, a water sports buff, or prefer your backyard’s pool, summer is the perfect time to get fit! Swimming is a great cardio workout. Treading water or doing laps for 30 minutes will get your heart rate up and keep you cool in the warm weather. Working out in the water is also good for toning muscles and improving flexibility while going easy on your joints. Challenge yourself by adding water “walking” to your routine. Simply swing your arms and walk forward as you would on land. Canoeing or rafting is another fun way to get in shape during the summer. In addition to the cardiovascular benefits, rowing is a great toner for the shoulders, the core, and the back. Turn a laid-back day on the beach into a fun form of exercise by tossing a ball or throwing a Frisbee with a friend. In the summer, your fitness can also be recreation!
Like to Bike? Your key to achieving your summer fitness goals might be sitting in your garage. Cycling is another fun way to savor the summer weather while getting up that heart rate. There are several kinds of bikes and styles to suit your lifestyle, your budget, and your terrain. If you live in a flat area or near a place with paved paths, try road biking. These bikes, which have skinny tires and lightweight frames, are made for speed. For those who have the mountains at their disposal, mountain biking is another option. Mountain bikes are built with heavier frames and thicker wheels to accommodate the rougher terrain. For everyday cycling or rougher trails, hybrid bicycles are your best bet. Cycling offers cardio benefits while building your quads, hamstrings, calves, and your core—and is also good for the environment! No matter what your lifestyle, biking is a fabulous full body workout.
Just Add Sunshine The benefits of having a membership at a fitness club like elements shouldn’t be understated. But taking your fitness regimen outdoors can also amp up your workout to the next level. Walk, jog, or skate your way to wellness and don’t be afraid to sweat it out this summer! Research shows that exercising outdoors can burn up to 7 percent more calories, due to changes in wind resistance and temperature. When you’re sweating, your body is working off more calories to keep itself cool. Summer is the season for couples or a group of friends to spend time together while getting into shape by playing tennis, volleyball, or simply tossing a ball in the park. The sunshine also has numerous health benefits. In addition to being an important source of Vitamin D and the sunlight can help blast away the blues. Outdoor workouts melt away stress and offers proven mental health benefits for wellness of both body and mind!
