Summer is here. The sun is shining and the beach is beckoning. But with all the summer fun also comes summer heat and humidity. Those high temperatures can turn a hot new hairstyle into a frizzy nightmare! Don’t’ spend all that time blow-drying and styling your hair only to ruin your efforts. Try out some of these easy, summery ‘dos that will endure the tropical weather.
1. Pull it Back into a Simple Ponytail
When it’s hot outside, a ponytail will help you stay cool and dry, will sweep hair away from your face, and will keep your locks in check. Ponytails are extremely versatile and are perfect for hot summer weather. Tie hair into a loose ponytail for a “roughly pulled back” look. With a pretty headband, you can embellish your style and keep layers from falling into your face. Flat iron and mousse for an elegant nighttime look. The possibilities are endless!
2. Try a Shorter Hairstyle
There’s no better time to try out a completely new look! Short hair can save you time and stress during the summer. Ride out the heat wave with a light, sophisticated style that frames your face. There are short hairstyles for every hair texture, from close-clipped boyish cuts to chin-length bobs. For an added defense against frizz, rub a few generous drops of gel into damp hair after washing.
3. Twirl Your Locks
If you have medium-length hair, twirling is a simple method for adding some body to your locks while keeping it in check through the humid months of summer. All you need are a few minutes, a set of hands, and a curl-defining gel. While your hair is damp, twirl sections of hair around your finger and apply defining gel or spray. Let set for 10-20 minutes, comb twirled locks with your fingers, and—voila!—you’ll have lovely, summery curls.
4. Half-up, Half-down
One of the easiest ways to dress up your hair, even in the heat, is to wear it half-up. This can work for any texture of hair in a variety of ways. Pull and twist light strands to the back and leave part in the middle or tie up an entire section. Adorn your simple look with a decorated clip or sport an elaborate bun. Half up-dos are perfect for work, for an elegant evening affair, or for a day just bumming around the beach.
5. Loose Bun
If you have wild, curly locks that pose a particular challenge during the summer, a bun might be the your summer solution. Rubbing an anti-frizz serum into the hair and pulling back into a bun will help keep the frizz at bay even through the steamiest of days. Hair can be parted to the side for a more varied look. If you have especially coarse or thick hair, be sure to get the strongest hair ties to prevent snapping.
So take a chance and try something new for the summer. With these simple styling tips, humidity won’t get you—or your hair—down!
