ImageIt’s the age-old battle (no pun intended!) of anti-aging. Are there any real answers? Treatments? Solutions? I am glad to inform you that your questions are now answered.

“Although the treatment of aging skin is very broad”, says dermatologist Dr. Mandy, “When looking at all the elements, degree and type of damage- your skin can always be improved.’

Speaking with Dr. Mandy about skincare, I was fascinated and extremely excited to pass on all this information. There are 2 main types of aging skin: Sun damage and the inevitable and undeniable intrinsic damage- Face it- with every second that passes, we aren’t getting any younger. But with a little help from science, we can mask that thing called time.

Intrinsic damage is less obvious and a lot easier to treat. One word: Prevention. And your solution: sunscreen. UVA/UVB protection are crucial for any time in the sun. Dr. Mandy said that 15 minutes is the maximum amount of time you should ever be in the sun without sunscreen- if any. Best products have a high number of anthelios like Neutrogena Helioplex. Another product to combat early aging is Olay Regenerist.

So with that being said, it is obvious that Intrinsic skin damage is mainly effected or sped up by sun damage. All skin improves with retinoids which are derived from Vitamin A. There are several popular over-the-counter products that significantly reverse photo-aging  such as Retin-A. Another treatment is with antioxidants and oxidizers. Products like Prevage and Revelaskin use the derivative of Coke-U10, coffee berry extracts and Vitamin C.

It is awesome to know there are so many wonderful products at our fingertips out there. But, with modern ways the way they are, there are other options. Science has given us the quick options of fillers and injectables like Botox. There are even light-based laser treatments, which use radio frequency waves to tighten the skin.

Time can now officially stand still! Stop by your local drugstore today and pick up any one of the mentioned products. I personally am trying Olay Regenerist.

Dr. Mandy’s extensive experience in dermatology and cosmetic surgery earned him the prestigious position as the former President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology.  He is also a volunteer Professor of Dermatology at University of Miami and know as “Dermatologist to the Stars” in Aspen Colorado. He shares his time between his practice in Aspen, Colorado and in Miami, Florida.  What makes him so special is that in addition to his experience he is an photographer, painter, and scuptor.  And if you have ever been to Miami you notice that dermatology and cosmetic surgery has become an art form!
